Gardner, James Gardner Routes operated by Imperial Airways & Companies in Association ( 1937 Imperial Airways Poster ) + original postal tube. Imperial Airways London 1937 64 x 102 cm (2ft 1” x 3ft 4” ) £1,000 A travel poster entitled ''Routes operated by Imperial Airways and Companies in Association'' Aviation posters aircraft aeroplane history Original poster in good condition, Very bright poster, minor scattered foxing, mostly to sides, small edge tear, minimal edge creasing, corner tip fold. This poster has spent almost all it's life rolled up in it's original tube. The Tube is brown, one end covered the other end open, with a Yellow/black label printed “ From Imperial Airways” with a typed name and address of person sent to (Mrs. Charles Hadley) and the printed business postal stamp “2d” (2 old pence) & “London SW1, 28.IX.37” (posted from London SW1 on 28th September 1937). As this poster is very rare, most likely this is unique and the only poster still rolled up in it's original Imperial Airways tube. This wonderful poster shows the routes represented on a map of world with two globes; images of one aeroplane and one seaplane (Armstrong Whitworth Ensign and Short Empire Flying Boat) fly from top right hand corner; route maps show the various routes operated by Imperial Airways and companies in association, routes projected or under investigation for operation by or in conjunction with some routes operated by other air transport companies; in different colours. "Ensign" and "Empire" flying boats with stats shown; multicolour poster on paper. Printed in Great Britain by Curwen Press Ltd, London, and published by Imperial Airways Ltd, printed ref details bottom left “1A/P/191 20m 5/37” which seems to imply the first printing May 1937. Imperial Airways were founded in 1924 by the British Government, acquiring the assets of existing airlines to form the national carrier of the country. In 1939 Imperial Airways became the British Overseas Airways Corporation /BOAC, & in 1971 became British Airways. From net also found out the artist was James Gardner 1908-1995. Overall this is a genuine original 1937 poster on paper,n rolled up and in the original 1937 tube. Poster in good condition, very bright colours, some foxing mostly to sides, minimal edge creasing small edge tear etc. So original, no repairs or alterations like linen backed. Please note as rolled up for so long, the items to side are just clips to hold poster flat to take the photograph of the poster.
