137 pages + info page rear + un-numbered pages of photographic illustrations. Original embossed Paperback covers designed by Jose M. Sert is in good condition with some folding & minor dirt rear protected in roughcut clear cellophane covers. Contents mostly good, clean & tight, has few corner tip folds & a couple of stamps of The Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House Library, also inside cover is the lending sheet, no dates, so it has not been lent., Just rubber stamped "Chatham House Cancelled". Printed to cover "Issued by Registry of The Court" & " Leiden (Holland) A. W. Sijthoff's Publishing Co." But printed rear is "Printed by A. W. Sijthoff's Publishing Company at Leydon (Netherlands)" & at base "Issued in March 1939 by the Registry of The Permanent Court of international Justice" Very rare as WWII started that year and the court officials moved to Switzerland for safety. Please note this NOT a modern copy, as at time of listing that all I could find for sale were modern. Printed in Red & Black text & all English Text.

To Title page a Chatham House Library lending slip, with no names/date so seems it was not read/borrowed, though it does have a Chatham House cancelled stamp on the slip & tiny edge nick. To rear of title page are stamps of Chatham House Library & Chatham House cancelled and some corner tip bending.

Title page + v + 42 pages , Condition Very Good & clean as looks as it has been bound with other pamphlets for almost 200 years, This is an original sixth edition, of this satire on Dublin by Croker written in the form of an anonyms report on the city of Quang-tchue, but a lively & humorous satire on the city of Dublin, as stated in the appeal to the public before the start of the "letter". No inscriptions or major faults, though a couple of pages are printed off centre, page iii missing one letter at end of 4 lines due to being printed off centre, but easy to work out missing letters. This was published 2 years before Croker entered parliament as member for Downpatrick.

Contents Very Good ,clean & tight, page 11 with small irregular hole near base ( belowr text ) , possible due to mistake in the manufacture of the hand made paper 250 years ago.. NO major faults ..... A Great Political Phamphlet with detailed information on politics and war inc. France and European leaders & how others saw it, naming names or initials and what might Britain do or cause , nothing much on the U.S. but on page 4 is " forced into present war with France. Stabbed at in her vitals in America " & a great damming peice on Duke of Marlborough and how he completely mishandled the French at the end of the war. Very rare item, no author is given in book but listed by British Library as John Percival 2nd Earl of Egmont .

11 Anonymous but Herries, John Charles Herries M.P. (1778-1855). A reply to some Financial Mistatements in and out of Parliament

Viii + 68 pages + foldout +advert page rear for the Cabinet (a weekly paper). As issued with no binding, outside pages with some dirt folding, contents mostly good & clean, the odd minor fault. Page 11/12 loose as page12 side printed upside down. This is Herries, ( then just a treasury clerk) attack on Cobbett’s criticisms of The Governments expenditure. Herries rose up though hard work to become Chancellor of the Exchequer, Master of the Mint, Secretary at War, etc. etc. He also famously used the help of Nathan Mayer Rothschild to transfer money to British and allied army troops on the continent. In fact Rothschild's successful conclusion of these transfers was one of the foundations of Rothchild’s English banking empire.

14 + viii + folding map + 582 pages + part II title page +vi preface to The Remedy , ( i.e. part I starts at page 5 to 276, then part II title page, vi preface, then part II The Remedy. Starts at page 277 to 560, then index 561 to 582). Full Leather binding with gilt embossed title to red leather on spine, as a fairly recent binding is in almost mint condition. Contents Very Good, clean & tight, no inscriptions, folding map (in good condition with no tears, just some minimal ageing), contents with a few corner tip folds, very light spotting to some pages, minimal ageing/dirt to edges when closed. Contains The Prospectus for the Society for the Extinction of the Slave Trade instituted June 1839 at the front including 4 pages names of the provisional committee , then Map, Title page, contents, Part I title page, introduction & contents of first edition, Then part II title page, a preface, then The Remedy. Sir Thomas Buxton 1786 - 1845 was a Member of Parliament, Brewer abolitionist and social reformer, after William Wilberforce retired in 1825 he became leader of the campaign for the abolition of slavery in the House of Commons and mainly responsible for the Abolition Act of 1833. He left Parliament in 1835. In 1840 Buxton was created a Baronet. There is a monument to him in Westminster Abbey. The 1839 1st edition was only 277 pages (part I in this), there was also a second edition in 1839, This 1840 book of 582 pages, I call a 1st edition as part II, The Remedy is larger than part I of this book (the 1839 1st edition). Rare in this condition. see scans.

19 Hogarth - Cook engraved by Thomas Cook, after a painting by William Hogarth 1803 PRINT; Bambridge on Trial for Murder by a Committee of the House of Commons

A rare 1803 edition, as this was the first engraving published, Not to be confused with later editions. Size approx, total 48.5 x 63cm (19" x 24. 3/4" inches) engraved area 39 x 52cm (15 1/4" x 20 1/2" inches). Condition good, has some foxing, mostly visible to edges, the engraved area is a very good sharp image. Published 1803, by G. & J. Robinson, Engraved by Thomas Cook after the original 1729 painting (at present lost) by William Hogarth (1697-1764), ( Hogarth did not publish an engraving). This is the first original engraving published of the painting, Not to be confused with later copies of this engraving. Below engraving is "Bambridge on Trial for Murder by a Committee of the House of Commons. Engraved by T. Cook from an Original Painting by Wm. Hogarth in the pofsefsion (i.e. possession) of Mr Ray, Published June 1st. 1803, by G. & J. Robinson, Paternoster Row, London." of Bambridge being questioned for murdering a prisoner, it shows Thomas Bambridge warder of the Fleet prison trying to explain some of the instruments of torture that were used. (I will also send more details with the engraving). Please note, better than flash photo, a bit darker with more contrast. & due to size will be sent in a tube, or collected by arrangement with fairs I do in London or Norfolk.
