185 pages, red faux leather covers, gilt embossed to edge "Patented No.275450. 1926", condition fair with some edge rubbing. Contents fair, a few corner folds, a few inscriptions to one of the rear end pages, some dirt. Most pages good & clean. Includes an undated Title page + Contents page + 96 colour maps, + 81 page gazetteer (including map "road numbering", 2 pages roads in profile, touring Britain, Mountain,road, railway and other summits) + 8 pages routes ( London to Dover, Oban to John O'Groats etc.). + fold out clear plastic pages bound into front & rear covers and calibrated in one inch squares for laying on top of the maps. Undated but due to "Patented No.275450. 1926" to front edge not listed on other listings, and seems to have pages rear not listed on other editions, would guess this may be the 1st printing of c1926/7. Due to higher postal costs, there will be a surcharge on this item.

Full title "Rand McNally & Co's new official railroad map of the United States and southern Canada. Engraved and printed by Rand McNally & Co. Chicargo. Copyright 1880 by Rand McNally & Co.". Also to right are maps of Atlantic coast states map & some town area maps( Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Chicago, Buffalo / Niagara Falls & Washington, engraved & on enlarged scale. This is a large scale folding Antique rail-road map of the United States and southern Canada, in 40 paper sections on linen making one large map. Condition fair, some added outline colour, outer cover is missing, some splits at folds (linen) and general toning. Torn linen (not paper map) that can be repaired from rear not affecting (or seen) front. Approx Size; unfolded measures 113.5 x 70cm (44 3/4" x 27 1/2" inches), folded 11.5 x 17.5cm ( 7x 4 1/2" inches). Rare map, not sure but could be the 1st edition of this Rand McNally & Co. Map, they made many different maps, The very first Rand McNally rail map appeared in the December 1872 edition of its Railroad Guide and only began publishing educational maps in 1880.

It is a fold out type Panorama-view book that follows the Rhine from Köln ( Cologne) to Mainz, 13 fold out pages, 45 b/w photographic views In art nouveau cartouche, the Rhine in colour with green flower and grape design as countryside.

Clearly dated at base of map 1827, Size closed is 10 x 15cm.aprox. & when map opened is 61 x 61cm.aprox. hand coloured folding linen backed engraved map in panels. Condition fair/good as almost 200 years has some wear/dirt, couple of edge stains top, recent tape to 3 rear of panel edges & two split edges etc., with old owner name to front cover paper label (when folded) map covers from Potters Bar down to Epsom & Cranford across to Dartford, printed to base is the Explanation (Key) inc. Market Towns, Farms, Mail & Turnpike roads, Railway & Rail roads, canals, even the "extent of the 3 penny post delivery", etc. also printed to base Engraved & published by G.F. Cruchley, Mapseller, (from Arrowsmith's) 38 Ludgate Street, London, 1827. In fact a great detailed map of London and surrounding area in the late Georgian period (George IV before Queen Victoria). see scans of map.

On thickish paper. Originally from: Composite Atlas. published Covens & Mortier, Amsterdam, c. 1720- 1760. Includes a good amount of geographic & topographic detail, place names, decorative pictorial cartouches at top left (distance scale) and bottom right with both sides of a coin above. The 18th edition with extra Appendix the main Title page is not dated, The ad page on this is dated 1829 & hidden on Title page mentions 1831 census, so this 1828 edition was updated & published c1831. 715 pages + extra/different page 6 (Advertisment page dated 1829) + 9 pages plates (most fold-outs) + v + 44 page Appendix .Contents Good clean & tight, some minor ageing, Large folding map front detached with minor foxing. 6 other plates with dirt/nicks to edges as slightly miss-folded. Orig quarter leather binding bound by J. Smith 49 Long Acre (London) very poor condition, front detached. Folding map/plan in 20 segments on original canvas/ linen, in fairly good condition, some ageing, a couple of very minor stains top, minimal ageing, no major faults, text in Italian, map of ancient Rome surrounded by plans of some classical buildings. In the early 1800's Antonio Nibby was the author of various books & maps of Rome his books were very much sort by wealthy English tourist's as they were small so could be carried in the pocket and very detailed with illustrations and small maps. This is one of his large wall maps, It originally came in a slipcase, now missing. To outside in ink in by an old hand is inscribed "Ancient Rome" & "Remains of Ancient Rome". Small holes to edges from being pinned to a wall. To base is printed something, which cannot be read as has been trimmed, but from viewing others on net it seems it was all to be trimmed and not seen/read. Size when folded is 13.5 x 21.5cm.
