1 Rand McNally & Co's new official railroad map of the United States and Canada. (This Railway map is copyright Dated 1880 on the map)
Chicago Rand McNally & Co. 1880 First Edition Fair/good Open 113.5 x 70cm, folded 11.5 x 17.5cm. 
Full title "Rand McNally & Co's new official railroad map of the United States and southern Canada. Engraved and printed by Rand McNally & Co. Chicargo. Copyright 1880 by Rand McNally & Co.". Also to right are maps of Atlantic coast states map & some town area maps( Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Chicago, Buffalo / Niagara Falls & Washington, engraved & on enlarged scale. This is a large scale folding Antique rail-road map of the United States and southern Canada, in 40 paper sections on linen making one large map. Condition fair, some added outline colour, outer cover is missing, some splits at folds (linen) and general toning. Torn linen (not paper map) that can be repaired from rear not affecting (or seen) front. Approx Size; unfolded measures 113.5 x 70cm (44 3/4" x 27 1/2" inches), folded 11.5 x 17.5cm ( 7x 4 1/2" inches). Rare map, not sure but could be the 1st edition of this Rand McNally & Co. Map, they made many different maps, The very first Rand McNally rail map appeared in the December 1872 edition of its Railroad Guide and only began publishing educational maps in 1880.

Protected in recent brown paper dust cover. Contents Very Good, Clean & tight. 1st blank endpage only at front detached & tatty... 2nd blank front endpage fair/good with edge staining from the original binding of tan leather covers, also to next page/title then all good to rear 2 endpages. Mostly questions and answers with various lists including names & addresses of applicants & witness. Male population of wards of New York City, some with amount of white & coloured inc. Native & Foreign. Comparison of the vote of New York of 1865-'68, and lots more. Supplemental titled "New York Election Frauds" title at top of Supplemental + pages 1 to 892 is "Election Frauds in New York" at time of listing only found a couple listed on the net, in institutions, none listed for sale.

142 pages + 2 (half title & full title pages) . recently rebound grey, black spine quarter hardback, Condition almost mint, contents very good, one owners signiture on half title " Lord ILCHESTER" other pages almost mint, original page 83/4 missing and bound in are photocopies ( otherwise would be double the price, as you are unlikely to ever find one in better condition) ,on title page there is no author given, though actual letters written by various inc Hutchinson, Oliver, Franklin, Auchemuty, Rogers, Mauduit etc. etc & belived to have been edited by Israel Mauduit. Although is Printed as 2nd edition is in fact can be called a 1st Edition ,as it contains so much more than the 1st edition Also it is thought the letters and publication were secured & released by Benjamin Franklin who was living in London at the time & most interestingly at same period met & became a good friend of Thetford born Thomas Paine who he talked into emigrating & gave letters of introduction for when Paine arrived in America, It is not known if Paine saw the letters or had a hand in this or the furore that this had in England & America, but a very interesting thought.

Contents fair, some staining etc last page some edge loss, tear etc. All text complete and is easy to read. contains 2 early owner names, one top inside front endpage, & top Title page. J. Burgoyne is best known as General Burgoyne (Gentleman Johnny)as during the American Revolution (War of Independence), his defeat /surrender at Saratoga ended a military and/or political career. The Play/book is dedicated to Lord Derby who later married Elizabeth Farren the actress who played Lady Emily & read the Epilogue (and is listed in the cast page).

From yours very truly Emma Rayner" **there were various Mayflower Tercentenary Memorial Library's set up at the time in different parts of America and possibly in some American based buildings in Europe. allmost all have now been incorporated within exsisting Library's or disposed of over the years and unfortunatly it does not state where this Library was.But it does add an interesting peice of social history to the book.

First Edition. 6" x 8 3/4" Approx. this book contains a glued in SIGNED letter (on Savage Club paper)from Coffin dated16th may 1935 (died 9th dec 1935 aged 73) . 303 pages+36 plates mostly photos of actors, inc 2 small (on 1 plate) of Salt Lake City 1930 &from Prospect Hill in 1892.+ John Hassall ills are in the text.Original blue binding with gilt lettering is good except spine that does have a little wear and1/4"tear at top,Contents O.K. except for signed letter and envelope (name/adress only) all hand writen by Coffin, glued to front & a few relevent newspaper cuttings inc one glued in rear mentioned in signed letter at front. A facinating 1st hand history/recollations of his life in the Theatre as Actor/singer from about 1880s,inc touring England ,South Africa in 1910, the U.S.A .in1892/3 with the Lillian Russell Opera Company ,and his parts in a few early films .and much much more.

Contents mostly good & clean, there are some staining to the two illustrations & title page at front. Within book the odd corner fold, or minor mark, no major faults, noticed no owner names etc.& still contains blank endpages front & rear. lists 28 pages of maps & illustrations, this lacks the Shoshone Falls illustration, all other present & in good condition. Prof. Hayden a United States geologist, almost 30 years in scientific exploration & surveys in the west. so includes information for travelers, Climate, health, mining, husbandry, education, the red Indians, Mormonism, the Chinese, Homesteads, pre-emption, land & mining laws, some history, geography, geology, including Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Dakota, Minnesota, Kansas, Texas, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, California, The Yosemite & Alaska. How to get government land and lots more. Hayden was possibly the west's most respected geological explorers of the 1860's & 70's . Therefore this is one of the best factual books of the period as the information is first hand by an expert/explorer who toured the area/ unlike other books of the period who either just did the one trip or just used lots of diff sources some incorrect. rare original 1st Edition,16 pages illustrated throughout, centenary Memorial to the Bunker-hill battle of June 17th 1775.with the Original Grey Fully illustrated paper covers, (inside rear is part of a poem "The Crossed Swords" by Rev. Dr. N.L. Frothingham) covers are mostly detached with centre fold, some nicks/loss to edges and torn with tape to front cover. Contents it states the 4 page poem is written expressly for this memorial, and not intended for publication elsewhere ,and the publishers request it not to be copied or reprinted. the poem has illustrations to both sides and top of each page. the rest (12pages) is a detailed history of the lead up and detailed account of the battle by James M Bugbee, including 20 illustrations within/around the text. Condition fold to centre, some minor staining and nicks to edges, and 1/2"tear to one edge. NO inscriptions. This is what i believe to be the rare Genuine Memorial 1st edition that was then copied / added to by other publishers.
